Senior Business Analyst

Position Purpose
The Senior Business Analyst plays a key role in the delivery of successful custom software solutions and helps Emercent to grow by participating in the sales process. This individual encourages thought and collaboration from team members to expand ideas regarding successful delivery and to provide the most value to Emercent and our clients. The Senior Business Analyst utilizes his/her business expertise and understanding of technical concepts to establish relationships with project sponsors and subject matter experts, define solution vision and scope and conduct requirements gathering. He/she assists with solution and storyboard design, creates functional specifications, defines user acceptance test strategy and cases, and authors strategic project documents. The Senior Business Analyst ensures solutions are consistent with user expectations and participates in the promotion and launch of the solution. The Senior Business Analyst assists project sponsors when defining their solution's vision, using creative and innovative approaches as well as previous experience, while ensuring that the requirements do not exceed the limits of technology or the project scope. This individual is responsible for assisting the client and project team in delivering solutions that meet or exceed user expectations and are aligned with business processes and strategies.

The Senior Business Analyst is also responsible for accurately estimating his/her and others' tasks, designing, refining and implementing all defined methodologies and standards, leading JAD sessions, suggesting best practices, keeping his/her skill set up to date, mentoring others, and performing knowledge transfer with clients and team members. He/she has utilized applicable tools, processes and concepts on multiple large-scale, end-to-end projects, and can play a lead role. He or she must be capable of mentoring and training others. Senior Business Analysts have a solid fundamental background in methodology and business-process reengineering.

Since the Senior Business Analyst is an agent for change, he/she not only must adapt to change quickly, but must also be a champion of change. They possess a minimum of four years experience in a similar role. Financial services and automotive industry knowledge a huge plus.

Position Objectives
The following responsibilities are to be carried out on a continuing basis:

  • Work with business users to define and re-design business processes and identify corresponding solution requirements while establishing appropriate expectations and controlling scope.

  • Participate in competitive benchmarking and opportunity assessments.

  • Actively seek ways to apply technologies to business processes to meet strategic goals through a conceptual understanding of technology and strong business insight and experience.

  • Define user requirements, create use cases, and author requirements documents by performing user interviews, JAD sessions and industry research.

  • Define user acceptance test strategies as well as user acceptance test cases and manage the users through the process.

  • Author project presentations, project approach documents, and functional specifications.

  • Work with the creative, business and technology teams to help design solutions and create storyboards.

  • Assist with keeping the business users apprised of project status and conversely, keep the technology team aware of user issues and potential roadblocks.

  • Actively participate in issue resolution and escalation. Work closely with all teams to eliminate slippage.

  • Author strategic documents, presentations, and training material that can be used to establish buy-in and launch the solution successfully.

  • Assist with the creation of a solution's information architecture and navigational structure.

  • Conduct and participate in usability and application reviews with the users.

  • Mentor other Business Analysts in use of methodologies, technologies and tools.

  • Actively participate in the growth of the organization through involvement in sales efforts, product development and organizational infrastructure enhancements.

  • Responsible for understanding workload priorities and own managing tasks.

  • Regularly provide information to management on major trends and developments in the organizations area of focus.

  • Implement Emercent's methodology, standards and processes on all projects to ensure consistent quality.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements
The following are requirements for the position:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, performing business analysis on large-scale, enterprise-level technical projects, preferably utilizing the web as the deployment platform.

  • Proven experience leading large analysis initiatives (on enterprise level projects with 10+ project team members) and conducting creative requirements gathering.

  • Strong process experience and understanding of business analysis methodologies. Proven experience implementing these on multiple initiatives.

  • Proven experience authoring approach and vision documents that clearly set client expectations, project strategy, and project approach, ensuring client satisfaction and delivery within timelines and budgets.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing.

  • Strong business insight and experience in multiple vertical markets, with 3+ years of financial services and automotive experience preferred.

  • Experience defining User Acceptance Test strategies and test cases as well as defining functional specifications.

  • Proven ability to knowledgeably participate in the creative conception, information architecture and content authoring of a highly visible web solution.

  • Management and direct reporting experience. Must have managed 3+ individuals, mentored their career growth, planned their workload, and addressed performance issues as needed.

  • Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task and work independently, without close supervision.

  • Creative problem solving skills along with the ability to apply technology to business issues, build solid relationships, and effectively resolve conflict.

  • Strong experience developing long-term relationships based on respect and trust with prospects and existing clients.

  • Experience with multiple, major ebusiness projects from beginning to end.

  • Strong knowledge of the web and its technologies, tools, vendors and products. Must be able to speak conceptually to all of the latest technologies, and specifically, how these can allow organizations to achieve business goals.

  • 3+ years experience participating in and supporting the sales effort. Must have created multiple proposals, participated in the complete sales cycle, and interacted as a subject matter expert with all levels of client management.

  • Proven success positively effecting organizational change through self and team motivation, and personal achievements.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of energy, flexibility, and the ability to persevere through periods of change and challenge in the business environment.

  • Experience successfully leading and also estimating and planning strategic planning initiatives.

  • Experience performing successful researching and benchmarking initiatives.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills and proven experience successfully interfacing with all levels of management - both client and internal.

  • Content Management experience a plus.

  • FrontPage or Dreamweaver

  • Understanding of HTML, dHTML, XML and scripting languages a plus
