Project Manager
Position Purpose
The Project Manager is responsible for the successful design, delivery and implementation of custom developed technology solutions at the enterprise level. This individual manages, mentors and leads the team through the entire solution development project lifecycle. The Project Manager works with clients to identify and set strategic direction for highly visible technical and business solutions. The Project Manager ensures the success of each initiative through planning, organization, collaboration, leadership, strategic guidance, and formal process/controls.
The Project Manager possesses a strong background in project management, custom solution development, web technologies, development methodologies, business knowledge, operational management, and leadership. His/her outstanding communication, team building, strategic thinking, relationship-building, and creative and technical skills, allow him or her to deliver solutions on time and on budget. The Project Manager works closely with the client and Emercent management to define and manage expectations, control scope, mentor and lead their team, implement methodology and continually enhance processes. The Project Manager has direct reporting responsibilities and also works closely with team members to grow Emercent's delivery capabilities. Additionally, the Project Manager plays a critical role in the sales process serving as a subject matter expert, delivering strategic presentations, planning and scoping new efforts, and authoring and owning the proposal process. Finally, the Project Manager uses his/her strong relationship-building skills, as well as their proven expertise and track record, to expand existing accounts.
The ideal candidate with be PMI Certified (PMP) and have automotive and financial services industry knowledge.
Position Objectives
The following responsibilities are to be carried out on a continuing basis:
- Work closely with the client to define their initiative strategy and vision and translate the strategy/vision into an initiative scope document that can be used to manage client expectations throughout the project.
- Create accurate project estimates, define the project's approach, create staffing plans, and develop and maintain a precise project plan.
- Deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Define a clear project hierarchy, establish roles and responsibilities identify priorities, manage schedules, eliminate issues, and work closely with team members to ensure they are on track and that there are no project overruns.
- Manage and mentor team members and enable them to meet their full potential, constantly building the strength and cohesiveness of the team.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the team and effectively compensate in the short-term and mentor for the long-term.
- Ensure profitability targets are met from both a project and team member perspective.
- Anticipate and resolve all issues using creative and strategic thinking, as well as strong business and project management expertise.
- Act as a liaison between the team and the client, effectively building a mutually respectful, trusting relationship.
- Establish and implement reporting, budget tracking, communication, issue resolution, change control and team protocol process standards.
- Implement Emercent's delivery methodology and processes to ensure the successful delivery of all engagements and work to improve and evolve the processes and methodology as required.
- Author strategic documents that can be used to establish executive buy-in, identify project ROI and secure sponsorship.
- Participate in the sales effort by identifying the solution approach, compiling accurate delivery estimates, authoring proposals, and participating in the development and delivery of strategic presentations.
- Keep current with web technology, management processes, and development strategies.
- Foster a positive work environment and form positive relationships internally and externally.
- Consistently receive strong performance ratings from the team, management and clients.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
The following are requirements for the position:
- 5+ years project management experience including supervising and leading project leaders, analysts, architects and developers, with at least 3 years of those 5 in consulting and 2 years participating in web development initiatives.
- Significant large-scale project planning & management experience (project budget, timeline, delivery, and transition responsibilities) - 10+ projects with team members of at least 10.
- Solid understanding of the software development process, including requirements gathering, analysis & design, development tools & technologies, release and version control, contemporary testing methodologies and deployment management.
- Proven track record participating in the sales process and in securing new business.
- Experience creating proposals and statements of work that are accurate and insightful. Define approaches and estimates that are competitive while ensuring success at meeting timelines and budgets.
- Excellent relationship building skills and extensive client interaction experience. Proven by long-term relationships and large growth of existing accounts.
- Ability to grasp technical concepts and communicate them in a manner that is understandable to business resources.
- Ability to work closely with technologists and have the insight to guide, mentor and even question the implementation approach.
- Effective collaboration skills - with team as well as Emercent and client management.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously. Strong experience exercising good business judgment and leading decisively.
- Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Ability to make quick and realistic assessments and commitments.
- Extensive experience with the successful delivery of technology-based business solutions at the enterprise level.
- Formal methodology experience with all phases of a project life cycle. Hands-on experience in multiple roles a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (both written and oral) with comprehensive experience interfacing with all levels of management and staff resources including CXX-level client sponsors.
- Self-motivated and goal oriented individual.
- PMP certification strongly desired.
- Content Management experience a plus.
